day 141

New favorite picture!

day 140

Best $1.50 I ever spent in my life. I don't know why we thought she'd just WATCH while we bowled a game with her sisters.

day 139

Yellow ribbons - I was surprised to learn that we have four kids from our community being deployed to Afghanistan. I started seeing the yellow ribbons this week.

day 138

It was one million degrees below zero again last night - clear and cold and perfect for watching the lunar eclipse. Not so perfect for taking pictures, hard to hold a camera steady when you're shaking from the cold. So this is the best I could do.

day 137

Still cold. If it wasn't for the fireplace, I'd never warm up.

day 136

Soooooo, you're at home now? What do you guys do all day?

You're looking at it. "Knock-knock!!! Whasss YOUR name??!? Halllooo!!! Hallo! MOMMY! MOMMY!!! KNOCK-KNOCK! Mommy??"

day 135

I went to a funeral today, but I don't think it was sad. Not everyone gets to have a good life, and a good death - and my uncle had both. I enjoyed going through his photographs (which were in this suitcase) with my aunts (the aunts were not in the suitcase) and we made a collage to display at the funeral. He did a lot of travelling in his life and I assume this suitcase made a few trips with him. Thank goodness for digital photography - I'd already need a huge suitcase to carry all of my photos and memories - and I'm not nearly done yet.

day 134

So here I am flipping pancakes with the mayor on Sunday morning. Part of my councillor-ly (?) duties. That's coffee in my hand, and I need it. I don't do mornings well. And I don't think breakfast should ever be cooked by me.

day 133

Ceci's feeling better, but not well enough to go out yet. So we're playing Clue: the Case of the Chocolate Cake.

day 132

Usually, I subscribe to the 'if it ain't broke....' philosophy, but here is one rare case where they've managed to improve on something that was already perfect. They added pop-rocks to Mini-eggs. They did this last year, but they also did something weird to the candy shell - so they weren't BAD, but it was just too much change at once. There's nothing wrong with the candy shell. Don't mess with it!

This year, they tried the pop-rocks again, but left the candy shell alone - and I have a new obsession. An added benefit is that the pop-rocks scare the crap out of Annique, so she wants nothing to do with ANY mini eggs. You know how much I hate to share, and she made me share a LOT of them last last year. So this is a good thing.

day 131

Maybe its true - too much candy DOES make you sick? Ceci's feeling tough today, was throwing up all night and slept on the couch all day.

day 130

I bought the girls shoes for Valentine's day, and patted myself on the back for not having a whole bunch of candy and junk brought into the house for Valentine's day.

Then, we went to the mail, and they came home from school.

day 129

Madeleine sorting heart-shaped crayons for her Valentines. Seems to be stressing her out.

day 128

If you're going to melt down crayons to make crayons, you'd better make them more interesting. So we added glitter and made them into heart shapes. I couldn't find the tin-foil hearts so we had to melt the crayons first, and then pour them into this heart-shaped ice cube tray. Because something tells me an ice cube tray isn't going to hold up in the oven.

day 127

For all of those who are wondering, Barry's brand new bathroom remodel does include a phone. Of course. I should have taken this from a different angle so you can see the pen that is chained to the inside of the box. I wish I was kidding.

day 126

Watching movies with Grandma. Must be a scary part.

day 125

We're going to Grandma's. This was a bit of a scary trip because its *STILL* freakishly cold, and it was just starting to get blizzardy when we were almost there. Its fine to get from point A to B in the cold weather - as long as nothing makes you stop in between. And blizzards always make me want to stop, but at 40 below, its too dangerous to stop. Also too dangerous to end up in the ditch, because you can't see. I hate when the weather changes so quickly. I worry so much about weather and driving, and I try so hard not to drive in it - but its been so cold for so long, we can't stay home forever. Grandma and Grandpa are leaving for Arizona (no wonder!) and so this was the last chance to visit before they go.

So, we pack lots of blankets and dress in layers and hope for the best.

day 124

Trying to get a picture to put on Annique's valentines. Its not any easier than it was at Christmas.

day 123

Before you call CPS - hear me out. She's two. My older girls survived being two, and neither of them were prone to crawling up on kitchen countertops, opening cupboard doors, removing childproof caps and pouring themselves shooters of Motrin.

So, before today I would think that leaving the medicine in a cupboard, behind a closed door, with the lid on tightly would be enough. But its not enough, and I know that, now.

day 122

The answer to "what's your favorite donut" = Vanilla Dip. If they tell me they don't *have* Vanilla Dip, then I kind of don't really want a donut anymore. I'll just get Timbits. And that's a French Vanilla coffee, of course.

day 121

Oh, you KNOW I love this. I have a nametag when I go to library board meetings. Its almost like the U.N. - almost.

day 120

Wow, this is a lot of work to make something we already had. Next step - melting the crayons. To make crayons. Yes, I know. We started with crayons.

day 119

Peeling crayons to make..... crayons. More productive than it sounds.

Day 118

They're HERE! And they brought FLOAM!

We have company for the weekend and the girls couldn't be more thrilled. They've also discovered Floam. I've learned to fear the words, "MOM, I've got FLOAM in my hair!"

day 117

Madeleine playing "Hit me with your best shot" on Guitar Hero. We have it worked out so she does the buttons and we help her to strum on time. She can get through the songs at 80-90% so far. Hopefully she gets the hang of the strumming part and she'll be able to do it herself, soon.

day 116

Still freaking cold. The thermometer doesn't show the worst part - the wind chill. I thought forty below zero was just ridiculously cold, and maybe we'd go a few degrees over on the coldest day ever - but that was LAST YEAR. This year, minus fifty is the new minus forty. Windchills are often hitting the minus fifties. The temperature dropped so quickly one night, our furnace couldn't keep up. This week, school was actually cancelled one day because it was too cold. That NEVER happens. Sometimes the buses don't run but school is always open for those who can make it. But this week, it was too cold and too dangerous for kids to be walking to school, even a short distance.

And don't even get me started on how many days we've had like this. Its supposed to be a freak thing that happens on the coldest day of the year, and then it goes back to normal. Its not supposed to STAY for WEEKS.

Global warming, my ASS.

day 115

Oh, I went back and forth for awhile. Should I post the picture of the bowling scores on the TV, or a picture of the ladies on our ladies' night out PLAYING the Wii? But then I remembered that someone wore their PJ's to my party, and so the decision was made!

That's cow racing, by the way. I'd post the bowling pictures, but I want to keep my friends.

day 114

Hm. Martha Stewart never smiles like that. Annique's making Kraft Dinner for lunch. I've given up on stopping her from helping in the kitchen. I just supervise very, very, very, very closely.

day 113

Don't touch Mom's computer. That's usually the rule but they all come running if I play a song or video. This is James Blunt - "You're Beautiful" which was played almost nonstop when Annique was a baby. So they all remember it well.
Annique getting her skates on. How they move in all those clothes, I'll never know. Makes great padding for when they fall, though!

day 112

Cecily swore off princesses at Halloween, but the costumes are still getting a lot of use. Annique calls all princess-related things "Bella" and loves to dress up and pretend to be a Bella.

day 111

The morning school drop-off.

day 110

Kinder eggs. I have no idea how many Kinder toys and parts of toys we have lying around - don't tell the girls I throw them out whenever I find one. The truth is, the chocolate egg is kind of tasty and we always have at least ten minutes of fun putting the toy together. But what do you DO with them after that?

I now have a pirate ship on my kitchen windowsill.
